Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need a Learner’s Permit and how old do I have to be?
Yes, you are required to have a Manitoba Learner’s Permit in order to legally take lessons with a private instructor. In Manitoba, you can take the written test at 16, but if you’re enrolled in a High School Driver Ed program, you’re eligible at 15 ½.
How many lessons do most people need to feel ready for the driving test?
The number of lessons you need varies from person to person, but we typically recommend 8-10 hours of training for new drivers. During your first session, we’ll help you determine the right path based on your comfort and experience.
How do I book my road test?
Road tests are booked directly through Manitoba Public Insurance (MPI). You can schedule your exam and download the free MPI driving handbook on their website: www.mpi.mb.ca. or go to any Autopac Insurance Company.
How do I receive and pay my bill?
An invoice for your lesson will be emailed to the email contact address provided. Please ensure all payments are made by the end of the week (Sunday), following your lessons. We accept cash and etransfer payments. When paying by etransfer, please forward your payment to man.driveacademy@gmail.com and reference your name and lesson date.
I have a valid license from my home country—do I need to wait 9 months to take the driving test?
Not at all! If you already have a license from another country, you can apply for a Manitoba license without the wait. We can help assess your driving need
